Registered Jersey Dairy Cow From Lucas Organic Farms – Highland County, Ohio

What Makes Our Herdshare (PMA) Different?

Lucas Organic Farms is located in Southern Ohio in the rolling hills of Highland County. We milk Registered Jersey Cows who spend their time outside in the fresh air, grazing, under blue skies. They drink crystal clear spring fed water that flows throughout our farm. During the winter, our cows are supplemented with high-quality hay that is treated with natural fertilizers and no harsh chemicals. We’re all about doing things as naturally as possible and staying away from pesticides, glyphosates, chemicals, and GMOs etc.

We have been milking cows for over 10 years and have enjoyed their rich, nutrient-dense milk. As our herd expanded, we decided to open up a herdshare, which is now offered through our Private Membership Association. We wanted to give others the opportunity to enjoy, and benefit from the nutritious raw dairy we love and have grown accustomed to.

We take cleanliness seriously. We used a closed bucket milking system that keeps the milk fresh and clean. The milk is immediately cooled after bottling. All milking equipment is cleaned and sanitized twice a day. The cows are given fresh hay bedding and are milked under cover.

Our cows are primarily grass-fed. During or after milking, our cows are supplemented with a high quality Non-GMO Grain that includes Non-GMO Corn, Non-GMO Oats, Minerals and Molasses. Supplementing with grain helps cows stay healthy and maintain their body weight/condition especially in colder months, makes milk naturally sweet, and helps boost milk production. They are also given Free Choice Salt/Mineral Blocks and Protein Tubs.

    “Renee”
Renee has a sweet personality and is very gentle and kind.
She is also a Registered Jersey and comes from an A2A2 Registered Bull.
She’s producing about 50 pounds of milk a day!

Jerseys Cows produce mainly A2 milk

When it comes to a comparison of regular vs. A2 vs. lactose-free milk, individuals with digestive issues may want to consider trying A2. There is evidence to support a lessening of the common symptoms associated with milk intolerance in individuals who drank Raw A2 milk compared with the other two options.

Many people who are sensitive to regular milk are unable to enjoy other milk products like ice cream. Making the switch to A2 milk opens the door to a whole new world of dairy products that are easily digestible and taste great. A2 milk also is used to make ice creams, cottage cheese, artisan block cheese, and yogurt.

    • A2 milk has always been around. However, the brand of A2 milk was first introduced to the market in 2000 by a New Zealand company and is similar in appearance and flavor to regular milk. Unlike regular milk, it is lacking in A1 beta-casein proteins. Jerseys Cows produce mainly A2 milk.
